What are some good small business ideas you can run in high school?

I don’t understand business licenses and which ones I would need and who would have to file them. I’m only 14.

Joe T January 30, 2010 at 2:37 pm: Maybe start an online business or offer some service locally in your neigborhood based on your skills. I had my carwash since the 12th grade, but you need a car, unless you run a small car wash at your home.
jinxforever January 30, 2010 at 3:32 pm: Since you are a minor you will probably not need a business license for a while, considering your business will probably not grow extremely fast. I believe you are allowed to make $300 a year until you have to file for a license.

So if you start to make over $300 then start to look into the legal things such as tax licenses.

Business ideas I have are selling handmade goods such as greeting cards or bookmarks. I always thought starting a button badge company would be cool. It depends how creative you are and what your strengths are. Your target consumers will probably be fellow high school students, so cater to their needs. Ask yourself questions like: What kind of goods and services do they want?

Then go from there.
